Fifteen minute oral history with A. B. “Frenchie” Estebenet, who first arrived in Bend in 1904 via horseback from Ashwood. Estebenet opened a saloon in downtown Bend, which he operated until 1909 when he relocated to Shaniko. Estebenet discusses returning to Bend later, where he ran a variety of businesses including a shoe shine stand, a garage, a tire business, and an auto court. Estebenet also discusses his early travels in America, after immigrating in 1887. Estebenet worked at a slaughterhouse in New Orleans, at restaurants in Texas, Oregon, and Washington, on a whaling ship in California, and a logging camp in Washington. Interview conducted by KBND in 1953 as part of an oral history series with the Deschutes County Pioneers. Originally broadcast on May 3, 1953.
