Fifteen minute oral history with Myrtle Frey Feltch, who first arrived in Oregon in 1883, although she did not move to Central Oregon until 1909 when she arrived in Redmond with her husband. Myrtle discusses life in early Redmond, which was quite lively in those days. Myrtle opened a hospital in Redmond in 1914 by trading a car and $500. Myrtle discusses early medical and hospital care in Redmond. Myrtle also discusses “railroad day” in Redmond, when the railroads first arrived, and James Hill drove a golden spike into the tracks. Interview conducted by KBND in 1953 as part of an oral history series with the Deschutes County Pioneers. Originally broadcast on September 20, 1953.
