15 minute oral history with Florence Pitman Stout, who first arrived in Central Oregon in 1910, heading down from Skagway, Alaska. The Stout family briefly ran a hotel in La Pine. Florence witnessed James Hill driving the golden spike upon the arrival of the railroads in 1911. Florence discusses cold winters, dances in Bend, placing the first trout in East Lake, and early travel in the region. Interview conducted by Kessler Cannon with KBND in 1953 as part of an oral history series with the Deschutes County Pioneers. Originally broadcast on January 4, 1954.
